This photo depicts the concept of what being a first generation American looks like to me. Personally it is a very odd concept to grow up somewhere but have no true ties to that place then go to where your ties should be and still not feel that sense of belonging. This has nothing to do with trying to fit in, rather it is about a new found modern concept that the melting pot of America has created. This dual self portrait depicts my American self (left) and my Indian roots (right). When cultures clash beautiful things are created, but there are also many problems that arise. Traditions can be broken. Religions can be bent. As a first generation American, I've experienced these struggles and used it as motivation to create this piece.
These are photos inspired by the Abstract Expressionism art movement in the 1940s

In the simplest form, Metaphysics is the study of why we exist. By definition Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that explores fundamental questions; including the nature of concepts like being, existence, and reality. The way I started this cohesive was by asking tons of questions to myself and others: questions pertaining to existence, reality, and purpose. Throughout my cohesive, I made photos that have a vague human element, to represent ourselves within the world in order to answer universal questions.
