First Generation American
This portfolio depicts the concept of what being a first generation American looks like to me. Personally it is a very odd concept to grow up somewhere but have no true ties to that place then go to where your ties should be and still not feel that sense of belonging. This has nothing to do with trying to fit in, rather it is about a new found modern concept that the melting pot of America has created. (Seen in the first photo) The two photos of myself depict my American self (left) and my Indian roots (right). When cultures clash beautiful things are created, but there are also many problems that arise. Traditions can be broken. Religions can be bent. As a first generation American, I've experienced these struggles and used it as motivation to create this piece.
